Uttarkashi

Uttarkashi meaning Kashi of the north, is a town in Uttarakhand, India.Uttarkashi is one of the most popular sacred places for Hindu religion and a hill town, which is located in Uttarakhand. It is situated on the bank of Bhagirathi on the height of 1352 m above from sea level. It is also a home of ashrams and temples. Most of the area of Uttarkashi is hilly. It is one of the best hill stations to visit in Uttarakhand. The best season or months to visit places in Uttarkashi are April, May, June.There are many temples in Uttarkashi that you can visit during your trip to the place and the most famous one among these is that of Lord Vishwanath. This is the largest temple in the region, and the most frequented one as well. There are several smaller temples in Uttarkashi as well, and these are dedicated to the chief deities Hanuman and Durga. Many other shrines are present in Uttarkashi and they cater to a wide variety of Gods, including Parshuram, Annapurna, Dattatrya, Bhairav, and Laksheswar.Uttarkashi is considered the northern Kashi or Varanasi. The town is situated at an elevation of 1,550 m on the right banks of river Bhagirathi. It is a district located in the extreme northern side of the northern state of Uttaranchal. Its margins also mark the Indo-Chinese precincts. It is 155 km north of Rishikesh and 100 km from Gangotri, and is couched in the Garhwal hills. The winters last from October to March, when temperatures fall very low. The monsoons are generally experienced in the months of July and August.

Gangotri Glacier

Gangotri Glacier is located in Uttarkashi District, Uttarakhand This glacier, one of the primary sources of the Ganges, is one of the largest in the Himalayas with an estimated volume of over 27 cubic kilometers.[1] The glacier is about 30 kilometres (19 miles) long and 2 to 4 km (1 to 2 mi) wide. Around the glacier are the peaks of the Gangotri Group, including several peaks notable for extremely challenging climbing routes, such as Shivling, Thalay Sagar, Meru, and Bhagirathi III. Kashi Vishwanath Temple

Kashi Vishwanath Temple - Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, India is the abode of lord himself who is manifest here as a syambhu linga, a self-manifest image not setup by human hands. Lord Shiva is manifest here immersed in deep meditation, showering his blessing upon all humanity. The Shivlingam here is 56 cm in height and has a tilt to the south. In the sanctum sanctorum, there are also Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesha. Nandi is in outer chamber of the temple.Devoted to Lord Shiva, the Vishwanath Temple is situated around 300 m away from Uttarkashis local bus stand. This temple received a new look after its renovation in 1857 by Sudarshan Shahs wife, Maharani Khaneti. The temple has a Shivling, 90 cm wide and 60 cm high. Dayara Bugyal

Dayara Bugyal is perched at an altitude of 3,048 mts above sea level offering splendid views of the Himalayan range. Bugyal literally means high altitude meadow in regional language. Dayara Bugyal is situated in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand state. It is a lush green meadow spread over a vast expanse of 28 square kilometres. Also written as Dyara Bugyal, the highlight of this trekking route is Barnala Tal, a natural small lake. The trek goes through open land and dense forest at different places ending up at the vast expanse of lush green meadow. This trek is open for first timers as well as veterans. Just ensure that you are excited about the trip and are in good physical shape (comfortable walking for 4-5 hours in a day).
